Dear <PREFERRED_FIRST_NAME>,
Your academic record for the Fall 2022 semester has been reviewed by the Committee on Scholastic Standards. You are receiving this letter because we care about your academic progress, and *as a first-year undergraduate student who has earned below a 1.00 GPA this semester, you must make a choice between the TWO options listed below for the Spring 2023 term*.
*Option 1: Take advantage of the Freshman Accelerated Fresh Start and restart your GPA*
There are many reasons why a student may struggle in their first semester of college. If you are navigating personal, health, or family challenges, this option allows you to take a break and return to CSU in the future. You will have the benefit of returning with a fresh academic record and saving possible financial aid awards for future use. Taking time off to manage personal issues, to attend a community college, to work or to volunteer may have many long-term benefits.
o Leave the University for 1 – 3 fall/spring semesters (Summer Session not included)
o Reapply to return to CSU and begin earning a new cumulative GPA (first semester grades remain on the transcript but will not be calculated in your CSU GPA)
o When you want to return to CSU, you will complete the returning student application available at http://admissions.colostate.edu/apply/returning/ and request a Freshman Accelerated Fresh Start. Prior to returning, you will be asked to work with your Academic Success Coordinator/Academic Advisor or with the Collegiate Success Coach in the Office of Academic Advocacy to develop a plan of action for success.
If you choose to take a break for the Spring 2023 semester, you will need to drop any courses for which you are currently registered. You can drop your courses in RamWeb: https://registrar.colostate.edu/registration-changes/. Please do this as soon as possible to avoid incurring charges on your account. For questions regarding vacating housing, please contact Housing and Dining Services: https://housing.colostate.edu/halls/vacate-procedures/. Questions regarding financial aid use and eligibility may be directed to the Office of Financial Aid: https://financialaid.colostate.edu/.
*Option 2: Return Spring semester *
If you choose to return for the Spring 2023 semester, you will be on probation and must enroll in *12* or more credits and earn a 2.00 term GPA in order to enroll in the Fall 2023 semester.
o If you earn a 2.00 *term* GPA or better in the Spring semester, you gain one additional semester (Fall 2023) in which to repair your *cumulative CSU GPA* to 2.00 or higher and return to good academic standing
o Note: You may also enroll in courses during the CSU Summer Session. Your grades will affect your CSU GPA and may help you earn the cumulative 2.00 you need to return to good standing.
o If you return for the Spring semester and earn a term GPA below 2.0 or do not enroll in at least 12 credits and complete at least nine (9) credits, you will be academically dismissed with no option to appeal your dismissal.
We want to continue to support you as you work toward successfully earning your CSU degree. Please speak with your Academic Success Coordinator/Academic Advisor, family and community, and other members of your support network about these options before you decide how to proceed this fall. *Once you have made a decision about your plans for Spring semester, please complete this survey:* https://academicadvocacy.colostate.edu/pxsurvey. The deadline to complete the survey and inform us of your plans is Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
If you have questions about Freshman Accelerated Fresh Start, please contact us at studentsuccess_scholasticstandards@mail.colostate.edu.
Sincerely,
Gaye DiGregorio
