Important Information about Your CSU Academic Standing

Dear <FULL_NAME>:

After a thorough review of your academic record, supporting documentation, and appeal request, I regret to inform you that your dismissal appeal was *denied*. You are dismissed from Colorado State University because your cumulative grade point average remains below a 2.00 after two semesters of academic probation. Your registration for any courses for the Fall 2023 semester will be cancelled.

After reviewing your particular situation, the committee suggests that you speak with DJ Hightower, Collegiate Success Coach in the Office of Academic Advocacy, about the possibility of applying for a retroactive withdrawal from one or more semesters due to unforeseen hardship. To consider your eligibility, first refer to information online at http://catalog.colostate.edu under Academic Standards and Policies, Registration, University Withdrawal, then scroll down to information on Retroactive Withdrawal.

We want to help you work your way back to Colorado State. In order to return to CSU, please review your academic options outlined on https://secure.studentachievement.colostate.edu/DismissalAppeals/DismissalOptions.aspx Many students find that taking courses at a community college, through CSU Online, the GUEST program, and/or Summer Session are good strategies for readmission to CSU. If you enroll in Summer courses and your cumulative GPA is 2.00 or greater, you will return to “good” academic standing with the University. In addition, former CSU undergraduate students may apply for an academic Fresh Start, a policy which allows students to establish a new academic record, after at least one full year has elapsed since the student’s last term of enrollment as an admitted, degree-seeking student. (See terms and application procedures for this policy at http://admissions.colostate.edu/returningstudents/.) (Note for International Students: Due to immigration restrictions for online and GUEST registration, international students must meet with an International Student Advisor in the Office of International Programs to discuss your options.)

Although your appeal of academic dismissal has been denied, you may request a personal appearance before the Committee on Scholastic Standards at the beginning of Fall semester to present any NEW information, such as completion of incomplete grades or other documented grade changes which might persuade the Committee to grant one additional term on probation. It is not recommended that you use that time to reiterate only facts that you presented as part of your original appeal request – the Committee has already reviewed and made a decision on information you presented through your original appeal. An appearance before the Committee would be scheduled after the beginning of the Fall semester, and we recommend that the request be made only after you have formulated a comprehensive plan for improving your chances to achieve good scholastic status. Even if your personal appearance were successful, it would be too late to affect your status for the Fall 2023 semester. The earliest you would be able to return to Colorado State University as a regularly enrolled student might be the Spring 2024 semester. To request a personal appearance to appeal your academic dismissal, please email studentsuccess_scholasticstandards@mail.cololstate.edu or schedule an appointment with DJ Hightower, Collegiate Success Coach in the Collaborative for Student Achievement by calling (970) 491-7095 or scheduling online at: https://csurams.campus.eab.com/pal/_u9ugQLuJl.

If you have any questions concerning the Scholastic Standards Policy or your academic options, please call your Academic Success Coordinator/Academic Advisor or the Collegiate Success Coach. We hope that you will take appropriate steps to improve your academic record and we look forward to the day we can welcome you back to Colorado State University.

Sincerely,
Sean P. Wernert-Eighmy
